KILL THIS LEAST YOU BECOME A MURDERER

Genesis 4:3-16; Hebrews 12:14-17

Today I am going to give us permission to kill. Yes I know that God commands us in the fifth commandment not to murder. But this killing I am permitting you and I to carry out, is approved by God. If we do not carry out this killing, we are likely to become murderers.

We are to kill; put to death every poisonous root of bitterness that is growing in us and among us as Christians. If Cain had listened to God’s warning, and dealt with; killed the root of hatred that was growing within him, he would not have murdered his brother Abel, and he would not have destroyed his cordial relationship with God.

It is sad to realize that a lot of us Christians are murderers. We might not have killed our brothers and sisters by causing them bodily harm or terminating their lives, but we have harbored anger and hatred in our hearts against them, which has led us to “murder” them with our words and actions. We have also “murdered” others by failing to look after their spiritual and physical well-being. May God have mercy on us!

Beloved, before the matter gets out of hand, and we lost our relationship with God by being banished to the land of Nod – wanderings, we should kill every poisonous root of bitterness that is trying to grow in us. We can only do this by the help of the Holy Spirit who will guide us on how to work at living in peace with everyone, looking after each other, and leaving a holy life free of immorality. We cannot kill or put to death such root of hatred on our own.

I pray that God will forgive us of every murder we have committed, and also help us to destroy and put to death every poisonous root of evil that is trying to grow in us and within us as Christians. In Jesus mighty name. Amen.
