RECEIVE, RUN WITH, AND PASS ON THE BATON

Judges 2:10-23; John 7:14-19

One of the most interesting points for me whenever I watch the relay race is when the baton is to be exchanged. I learned that if the runner does not collect the baton and run with it to the finish line, such a runner is disqualified.

Today the baton God wants us to receive, run with, and pass on is His word and the proper worship of Him. This generation has received the baton and may we not fail to pass it on to the next generation. May the word of God and the true worship of God not end in our generation.

In this day and age, it is very tempting to leave the teaching of the Christian faith to Christian schools and the church. Parents and guardians seem to be very busy. But it ought not to be so. The teaching of the Christian faith is primarily the task of the family. Some of the teachings should be done by example because children learn so much by what they see.

Has your child seen you praying or reading the Bible? Do we still have time for family devotions? I know it’s not easy but we have to try because sadly, all I hear these days are parents talking negatively about the church, members and leaders. I don’t think they understand the message they are passing across to their children.

I pray that may we not raise a generation that does not acknowledge the Lord. May this generation and the ones to come never be tempted to abandon what is right. May we never drop the baton but run with it and pass it on. May the grace of God continually spur us to do His will in our homes in Jesus name. Amen. God bless you
