NOTE THESE PRAYER POINTS

Proverbs 1:8-9; Matthew 6:9-13

Please take note of these prayer points if you are a parent, a child, and especially a youth. We should pray as we have never prayed before because of the present situation we find ourselves in the world today. A situation where people will want to do anything for money, wealth and fame. The prayer points are: lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil found in Matthew 6:13. The NLT puts it this way: “And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.”

We know it is part of the Lords prayer and every part of that prayer is very important, especially: give us this day our daily bread, which is my favorite. But when I see the way people are being enticed by friends and media to do all sorts of thing just to make money, I think we need to take note of this prayer points and pray it over our lives, our children, and loved ones. The days are evil and the devil has taken the art of temptation to another level.

Martin Luther the great reformer in the Small Catechism puts these prayer points as the sixth and seventh petitions of the Lord’s Prayer. And he explains it this way: The 6th petition which is: and lead us not into temptation means: God tempts no one. We pray in this petition that God would guard and keep us so that the devil, the world, and our sinful nature may not deceive us or mislead us into false beliefs, despair, and other great shame and vice. Although we are attacked by these things, we pray that we may finally overcome them and win the victory.

The seventh petition which is: deliver us from evil means: We pray in this petition, in summary, that our father in heaven would rescue us from every evil of body and soul, possessions and reputation, and finally, when our last hour comes, give us a blessed end, and graciously take us from this valley of sorrow to Himself in heaven.

And so I pray, Father please lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. God bless you
