CHRISTIANS SHOULD ACT WISELY

1st Samuel 25:18-33; 1st Corinthians 3:10-23

It is believed that since we are Christians, we automatically become wise without any trace of foolishness. But such believe is not true. Christians sometimes acts foolishly. This is because we are still growing, and we are still in the world. There are other times we act foolishly because we never stop to think before taking action.

In our text, we saw how the foolish action of Nabal almost cost him his life, and that of his entire family. He acted according to the prompting of his flesh because, the Bible describes him as someone who is crude and mean in all his dealings. We sometimes act foolishly when we respond to the prompting of our flesh, instead of that of the spirit.

Abigail, Nabal’s wife, acted very wisely. She considered all that David had done to help her husband, and knew that what her husband did to David was not good. She was very proactive, and she saved the day. She had the right words to say because she was out to make peace. We act wisely as Christians when we are out to make peace, without compromising the truth.

In 1st Corinthians 3:10-23, most of the Christians were not acting wisely because, they were causing division in the church on the basis of their loyalty to a particular individual. They never sat back to consider the havoc such action would do to the church; they just wanted to be right. They failed to see that those they were trying to glorify above the other, were both in the same body, working for the common good, and that they can all have them both.

If only we could just take a while, sit back, and allow God through the Holy Spirit, and through his word to direct us, we will find ourselves acting wisely even beyond our imagination. We should never forget that as Christians we are all one and all we do will be tested by fire not by our human accomplishments. All the wisdom we need is found in Jesus. And he has given us the Holy Spirit to help us get this wisdom through his word.

So I pray that God will direct us every day of our lives and His word will order our steps, thoughts, and actions, so that we will act wisely and bring glory to his name. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. God bless you.
