PROVERBS 23:19-35; 1ST CORINTHIANS 12:3-7
Have you ever been drunk? Why do people get drunk? These are two wonderful questions that came to my mind as I pondered on the readings for today.

Proverbs paint a vivid picture of how someone behaves and feels when he or she is controlled by the wrong spirit, that is, wine or alcohol; it reveals a sense of selfishness. In first Corinthians 12:7, Paul gives an important reason for the manifestation of the Holy Spirit, which we know should be the right spirit to control us, for His manifestation is for the good of all.
There is another kind of spirit that controls people which I cannot classify, they are found in the church where the Holy Spirit is supposed to dwell, but their manifestation shares a lot of similarities with that of wine; alcohol; spirits. They are not used for the profits or good of all, but they are selfish and bring about confusion in the house of God. They end up with manifestations described in Proverbs 23:29&33: anguish, sorrow, fightings, complaining, unnecessary bruises, redness of the eye, hallucinations, seeing crazy things, staggering, numbness and so on and so forth. They do so thinking they can find themselves in these things; thinking it’s going to solve their problems. Don’t we see the same manifestation in churches today?

May God help us to find ourselves in Him, and may the Holy Spirit He has given us, continue to fill and control us; the spirit that is associated with His word. This implies that to be controlled by the right Spirit, we need to get the word of God, consume it, and ask the Spirit of God to have His way in us, which will take away every selfishness and make His manifestation in us to be for the benefit of all and to the glory of God.
May we never be controlled by the wrong spirit in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen. God bless you
