OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY

Jeremiah 9:23-24; 1st Peter 5:6-11

If you were asked to choose between going to school all through your lifetime on earth and going to church which would you choose? This is not a tricky question and you don’t have to think about it for a long time. A lot of people find it difficult to quickly give an answer. One youth in a Bible study class said she would choose going to school because in the school there is a chapel and they will have time for devotions (hmm smart).

The human mind have somehow been conditioned to admire three things in people: Wizdom, Power, and riches. Most times without considering where the wisdom power and riches is gotten from. With this, we have been conditioned to believe that secular education either formal or informal can bring about these three things. That is why we see parents buying expensive textbooks for their kids but will not consider investing in a good Bible for that same kid. They will prepare for school on time for five days in a week but find it difficult to prepare for church service once in a week: I wouldn’t want to mention weekly activities.

We have somehow gotten our priorities wrong; unwittingly. Our number one priority should be to know God personally and live a life that reflect His justice, righteousness, and love. We should remember that it is far better for God to recognize us than for humans to praise us because of our earthly accomplishments position and status.

Going to school is wonderful, having money is great but knowing God and serving him is the best thing we could ever do and that should be our number one priority. This is because God is able to handle everything that concerns us. He is even able to give us the ability to make it in life.

So I pray for grace for us to get our priorities right. I pray that the Holy Spirit will lead us and help us to do this even as our heart yearns for it, in Jesus name Amen. God bless you
